Risk Disclosure
Effective date:
Trading involves substantial risk of loss
The risk of loss in trading futures contracts and options can be substantial. You should carefully consider whether trading is suitable for you in light of your circumstances, knowledge, and financial resources. Only risk capital, money you can afford to lose without changing your life, should ever be placed at risk. You may lose more than your initial investment when trading leveraged products.
Leverage works both ways
Futures are leveraged instruments. A small movement in the underlying market can produce a large gain or a large loss relative to the margin you post. Markets can gap and move against you faster than orders can be executed, and stop orders do not guarantee an exit at your intended price.
Options risk
Options involve risk and are not suitable for all investors. Before trading options, read the Options Clearing Corporation's "Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options," available free at theocc.com.
Day trading warning
Active intraday trading carries additional risks: transaction costs compound, volatility can be extreme, and independent academic research has consistently found that most people who attempt day trading are not profitable. Do not trade with money you need, and do not trade to escape a financial hole.
